PickleBall Fix: May 21, 2021
Club members have been busy this week! It’s great to be able to get together again for Club social events as has been the case in the past. Note: Check your trash/spam if you do not receive your Friday "Fix."
Employees’ Appreciation Lunch. The Club hosted a luncheon for all TP employees on Wednesday, May 19 from 12-2pm on the Lodge Porch. More than 75 employees attended during their lunch hours. Club members grilled hotdogs and hamburgers; others donated different salads, baked beans and homemade brownies and cookies for dessert, along with drinks. Raffle drawings offered winners’ prizes. Thanks to all members who volunteered to cook, serve, set up and clean up. Other members also stopped by to thank and visit with TP employees who have helped at the Courts. All TP employees enjoyed the time to lunch and visit together. It was a very positive experience for both employees and Club members! Thanks especially to Barb and Don Rooks who organized and kept everything running smoothly as usual. Cookouts. Saturday night’s cookout on May 15 was attended by approximately 50+ members and guests to sample Chef Gino’s burgers and, of course, the savory side dishes brought by members. Some enjoyed just chatting with colleagues and others also played some pickleball.
This Saturday May 22, the Club’s first Guest Chef Karen Toof is in charge of the “Breakfast for Dinner” cookout main dish. Remember to bring your dish, salad, dessert, etc., enough to share with 6-8 people, your drink and chair. A $3 fee is collected.
--Each week sign up on the Den by 12 noon, Thursday, to attend that week’s cookout. This helps the chef adequately prepare.
--Thanks to all those members who have signed up as guest Chefs. We only need one more Chef for July! What a great response to the Club’s request for Chefs!
‘Skinny Singles.” Skinny Singles now becomes a regular sign-up sheet in the DEN for all who want to play. The event is no longer “by invite only” nor is there any need to contact Piet Trappenburg. The six-person sign-up offers the opportunity for players to mix it up and make their own matches. Play time will be 11:30am-1pm on Saturday and Monday 6-8pm (2nd, 4th Mon). The sign-up sheet closes two hours before play time. Players will play some skinny singles matches and then doubles where players pick who will play together. Look for a return of Skinny Singles competition in the Fall.
PARC Update. At the TP Board Meeting on Wednesday, the Board indicated that the new pickleball courts would be opening on June 18. Note too that curbing has been installed at the south end of the PARC in preparation for work on the Wellness Center and getting a temporary occupancy permit.
Reminder: Picklers who travel to the courts in golf carts, please park on the parking lot side to leave spots open for pool goers. Some folks with medical difficulties need to be close and are having trouble finding spaces to park near the pool.
Learning. Check the TPPC website under Learning in Coach's Corner (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vERU- DW6ujY) for a video of seven (7) warm-up exercises and stretches to prepare hips, knees, ankles, and rotator cuff for pickleball play. Preparing prior to play helps you keep safe and play better!
Complimentary Pickleball Magazine.
